Recreational Bridges

Recreational Bridges

Recreational Bridges can be used for both temporary and permanent crossings where only light traffic is permitted including atvs, motorcycles, snowmobiles, trail groomers, light cars and half-ton trucks. These heavy-duty bridges have two separate sections available in multiple lengths and a low structure profile making them easy to transport, handle and install.

With a 10-ton capacity, recreational bridges are designed and certified for an AASHTO H20-44 Design Vehicle. These bridges comply with the design requirements of the 2004 MTO, “Guidelines for the design of snowmobile bridges,” and exceed the snowmobile bridge design standards identified in the ministry of natural resources and forestry 1992 “Crown Land Access Roads Manual” (Section Ra3-3).

Recreational Bridge Dimensions:

  • Length: 20’, 30’, 40’ 50’ & 60’
  • Running Surface: 12’
  • 10 ton capacity

Recreational Access Bridge Features

With our extensive experience manufacturing, delivering and installing bridges we have developed key features specific to our recreational access bridges including:

Safe and Durable Design

Our heavy-duty design consists of two separate sections each consisting of three girders for a total of six girders per bridge superstructure. Girders are reinforced with diaphragms that provide lateral support to steel stringer beams during loading.

Tapered Or Square Ends

Our access bridges are manufactured with a tapered or square end at no additional cost. Tapered-end bridges are excellent for use in locations where the bridge is installed on a substructure that does not have an upper approach crib leading to the deck.

Square-end bridges are best suited for use on permanent installations at sites with existing wooden cribs with decks where an exact elevation match is required.

Steel Checker Plate Decking

Access bridges are shipped complete with a 3/8″ pre-welded steel checker plate deck. Compared to a timber deck, a steel deck offers significant savings in maintenance including labour and wood, over the life cycle of the bridge.

High-Performance Coating And Anti-Slip Surface

To ensure proper adhesion of paint and non-slip coatings, all main stringer beams are cleaned and shot blasted in accordance with SSPC-SP 6 industry standards.

A high-performance red oxide primer is then applied to the entire structure and as part of the painting process, a dense grit product is added to prevent workers from slipping or falling during construction.

Decking Access Points And Weighted Cover Plates

Access points or “cutouts” in the surface of the decking allow installers to bolt both sections together. Weighted cover plates are then provided to ensure all openings are covered and the deck surface remains level and flush.

Pulling and Lifting Lugs

There are three pulling lugs pre-welded to the ends of each section for a total of twelve. These lugs are reinforced to provide safe lifting and pulling locations for easy bridge installation.

Tie-Downs and Tie-Down Guides

Modular bridge sections are linked by tie downs, strategically positioned along the centerline, and facilitated by tie-down guides. These guides, welded in place, ensure quick and precise alignment for connecting adjacent sections, with assembly bolts securing the junction.

Nut Locking Bars

Bridge bolts securely fasten to tie downs, with nut locking bars beneath ensuring a ‘snug + 1 turn’ position from the top of the deck. The alignment of tie downs and guides is precise, as modular bridge sections are fabricated side by side in the shop.

Structural Grade Bridge Assembly Bolts

Structural grade bridge assembly bolts are included with every bridge. It’s recommended to apply light oil or a product like “Never Seize” during installation for optimal long-term maintenance.

Bolted Post Pockets

Bolted post pockets, assembled in the field, enhance the performance and maintenance of guardrail installations. These pockets meet the anchoring requirements of the TL1 Barrier standard, as specified in the MTO 2016 “Exceptions To The Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code CSA S6-19, For Ontario.”

Welded Post Pockets

The guide rail pockets consist of 6″ x 6″ x 12″ deep hollow structural steel tubing that is pre-welded to the outer sides of the bridge. The pockets are spaced in accordance with OPDS requirements for post for curbs, pedestrian handrail or guiderail (if required).
